The film

Since my early teenage years, I have been trying to understand what love means to me. I remember watching many films and series back then, hoping to find a glimpse of recognition. Despite all my searching, I have yet to see anything with a trans-masculine person of color in the lead role. Either they did not exist, or they were not visible in commercial media. This lack of representation made me feel lonely and strange for a long time. And that feeling is hard to shake when there are no examples to prove otherwise. As African-American civil rights activist Marian Wright Edelman said, “You can't be what you can't see.” 

"Goudvink" is an ode to my younger self: a sincere love story about layered POC (person of color) queer characters leading a light-hearted life full of romance. Making this film is the first step toward positive change. For myself and for all the other young queers of color who deserve to see themselves and their love lives represented on the big screen.
